Week 2 (Critical incident)

The critical episode:
Manage some of  the children’s behavior.
Describe the incident:
This week I noticed that I have 4 children in my classroom that have behavior problems. For example, one of them is always ignore the teacher when she talk to him or call his name and he keep doing whatever he want. The other child has the same behavior as the previews one and also he always says bad words to his friends. When I had this problems with these children, I feel upset and angry sometimes.
This incident stand out of the children’s behavior at home and imitate each other’s behavior. This is because of when I asked one of the teachers who is one of the children’s anti about this behavior, she said that this child hears the bad words from his older brothers and he behave like them. As a result of this, the other children in the classroom are imitating his behavior because they thought that he is the boss of the classroom.
I learned from this incident that children need some management strategies that can manage their behavior. I planned for next week to create a managing behavior chart where I placed the children pictures at the bottom of the chart and whenever they act in the right way, I put a sticker each time on their pictures until he / she get to the big star, they will get a certificate and a gift. I hope this strategy will affect the children’s behavior in a good way.

First week (critical incident)

This week the school started a new way of teaching the children. This way of teaching wes as it shows bellow:

I think this way will not be too long because all the teacher are not happy about it and no one can manage this way. Moreover, it will affect the children’s learning because it is more teacher centered and the children are not having any active learning or creativity activities any more. When Dr. Neil came to observe me, I tried to let the children active but he didn’t like the way that I were using and he felt board about it, so this affected my grade. When I told Ms. Asma about it, she felt sorry about it and she came to talk to me. She tried to manage my emotions because I were upset and confused about what I have to do.  She said that she will try to do whatever she can do to help me to change the way of teaching and also she told me to do what I think is correct and not what I have been forced to do.

For this issue, she was an active listener because she listened to me when I was talking to her and she tried to get the meaning and reasons of what I was saying to her. Also, sometimes she reflect and clarify my understanding when she summarize what she have said. The most important skill that she is using is using eye contact and body language while she talk. She gave me one advice that it stuck in my head which was “Do what you believe is correct and not what you have been forced to do”. With her advice, she support me and placate me.
